Devised in conversation with the Collection’s Curator, Giulia Civardi, this intimate presentation unveils over 90 works by 59 international artists that radically shaped the Nicoletta Fiorucci Collection and the vision of its founder, as well as broader perceptions within the arts.

With a focus on emerging practices and works acquired over the past three years, the exhibition brings experimental artistic approaches in conversation with longstanding historical influences. Traditionally- recognised media such as painting, sculpture, and drawing appear alongside photography, textile, marquetry, collage, video, ceramic, mobile and digital technologies such as a responsive sound sculpture and a ‘sentient artwork’ that changes and adapts to its surroundings.

‘Art is my home’, affirms Nicoletta. In the last decade, the Fiorucci Art Trust regularly hosted several events, workshops, and performances in domestic environments. Continuing to embrace this approach through her Collection, Nicoletta was inspired to open the doors of a temporarily empty home - located inside the historic building of ‘La Rose De France’ in Monte-Carlo - leaving its interiors to their original, abandoned state.

By occupying an informal setting, the exhibition provides the visitor with an intimate space to engage with artistic expressions from multiple vantage points, to explore various paths in time, and to encounter radical gestures and unexpected figures.

Recent Acquisitions and Eternal Loves – Part I: an introduction by Hans Ulrich Obrist.

The world needs togetherness, not separation. Love, not suspicion. A common future, not isolation. (Etel Adnan)

The extraordinary collection of Nicoletta Fiorucci is marked by her curiosity and her love and passion for art, as well as for the artists themselves, to whom she makes a strong commitment, often at the very beginning of their trajectory, loyally supporting them over the years. But she is also open to new voices. The presentation of the collection is nomadic and often happens in unexpected places: in a bathroom, in cupboards, or hidden as objects seemingly belonging to the space. As Nicoletta knows, showing work in a domestic environment can lead to experiences that are more intimate and provoke the thrill of discovery.

Recent Acquisitions and Eternal Loves – Part I will be presented in an apartment in Monaco. The apartment is a complex accretion of hallways, windows and hangings, with unexpected views, leading to narratives and encounters between objects and vistas. A permanent pull between visibility and invisibility, the paradox of a well-guarded public secret, will create a strong sense of playfulness. Two visits will never be the same in this complex and stimulating place. Instead of beginning with a master concept or plan, Recent Acquisitions and Eternal Loves – Part I has grown organically, allowing the exhibition to develop a life of its own, more like a conversation than an arrangement of work to suit a pre-existing idea.

Nicoletta’s approach follows the idea of élargir et approfondir – extending and deepening – extending the collection with new names from new generations of artists, and deepening the holdings of artists already in the collection. Recent Acquisitions and Eternal Loves – Part I shows that curiosity is generosity, an enthusiasm to share and exchange knowledge and ideas, to create and expand connections. Curiosity is a form of mental energy. It powers the ways in which we relate to ourselves and the world around us. Or in the words of Albert Einstein, ‘The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when one contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvellous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries to comprehend only a little of this mystery every day.’
